Contaminated Tuna Alert: Fish With Hepatitis A Served In Some Calif. Restaurants

Tuna is a popular item in home kitchens and on restaurant menus, but some being sold in California could be infected with the hepatitis A virus. The Hilo Fish company initiated a recall of some of its tuna earlier this month, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which is urging consumers to avoid the items.

The affected products came from the Sustainable Seafood Company, located in Vietnam, and from the Santa Cruz Seafood, which is based on the Philippines. If you think you may have ingested any of the tuna, the FDA urges you to consult your doctor.

Symptoms of hepatitis A include stomach pain, jaundice, dark urine, pale stool, and fatigue, according to the FDA. Symptoms may not appear for a period of 15 to 50 days after eating the contaminated tuna.
