Coronavirus: 2 Hospitalized In San Francisco

Two people were hospitalized Monday in San Francisco with the new coronavirus after arriving from another county.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Two people are being treated for the new coronavirus at a San Francisco hospital, the city's Department of Public Health said Monday.

The patients arrived Monday morning and do not pose an elevated risk to the public, according to the department.

The name of the hospital and more information about the patients are not being released for privacy reasons.

The department emphasized that these cases are not from San Francisco but from another county. Two cases have been reported in Santa Clara County since Friday, and two others were reported in San Benito County on Sunday.

The virus, which presents with flu-like symptoms, is thought to have spread from animals to humans, in Wuhan, China, and since has shown the ability to spread from person to person.

Some flights to China from San Francisco have been suspended out of concern about the growing outbreak.

As of Monday, the number of new coronavirus cases in China had reached 17,205, with 360 deaths reported. Cases have been confirmed in 27 nations.
