Driver Arrested In Deadly Crash At SFO

Three pedestrians were hit, according to police.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Authorities have arrested a driver connected to a vehicle collision that injured three pedestrians, killing one of them Monday at San Francisco International Airport.

Athmane Oukal, an Algerian citizen, was arrested for the crash that happened near the arrivals area of the airport's International Terminal just before 3:30 p.m., according to San Francisco police.

Oukal, driving a black Ford Expedition, accelerated from the curb and struck the three victims, a female and two males. All three were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

One of the victims died about an hour later. He's been identified by the San Francisco medical examiner's office as 33-year-old Jedidiah Crews from Seattle.

On Tuesday, police said the two other victims remain hospitalized and their injuries were no longer considered life-threatening.

Police initially said Oukal remained at the scene and cooperated and didn't display any signs of intoxication. However, officers arrested him on Tuesday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving at an unsafe speed.

He has been booked into San Mateo County Jail, police said.
