Extra Security At SF School Targeted In Threat

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Police and San Francisco Unified School District officials are taking extra steps today to ensure the safety of students and staff at Rooftop School after a person who made threats against the school was reportedly released from jail Sunday.

Police did not provide the name of the suspect but did say he was affiliated with the school but not an employee.

At about 8:30 a.m. last Tuesday, the suspect made threats to a school district employee about another employee and Rooftop School located at 443 Burnett Ave. in the Twin Peaks neighborhood.

Police and school district officials said parents and staff were notified and the school was placed on temporary lockdown, which means students remained in the building and all outside doors were locked. The school stayed on lockdown throughout the day.

Normal school activities continued throughout the day without interruption.

Police said they conducted an investigation and at about 9:15 p.m., the suspect was arrested on suspicion of criminal threats and was taken to the county jail.

Today, access points to the school's Burnett and Mayeda campuses are being watched closely.

School district security is present on campus and is assisting in identifying visitors to campus at the school's main access points, according to school district officials.

School officials are working closely with police but don't believe the person is going to carry out the threats.

School district officials said they are providing extra emotional support to students and staff because of the fears raised by the threats.
