Firefighters Rescue Reptiles from San Francisco Community Center Fire

Officials said there were no injuries and no displacements.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — San Francisco firefighters rescued a number of reptiles following a one-alarm fire in the Mission Terrace neighborhood on Dec. 6.

The fire at 35 San Juan Ave. was first reported by the fire department on Twitter shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Fire officials said there were no injuries and no displacements, and the fire was contained by 4:36 p.m.

Firefighters encountered a number of iguanas and other reptiles housed on the second floor of the building and were able to save them all, fire officials said.

Fire officials described the building as a community center. Several community groups are listed as operating out of the building including the Excelsior Action Group, Digital Action Hub and the Excelsior Science Workshop.
