ICE Agents To Patrol Super Bowl

DHS confirmed ICE operations around Levi Stadium during Super Bowl LX.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The Department of Homeland Security said Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will conduct enforcement at Super Bowl LX on Feb. 8.

ICE federal agents will patrol Levi’s Stadium before the game between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, federal and NFL officials said.

DHS announced routine ICE operations around the venue as part of security for a high-profile event.

According to reports, ICE agents will be in the Bay Area for a week.

In October, DHS adviser Corey Lewandowski called enforcement a presidential directive that will not pause for the Super Bowl.

The announcement comes amid pushback in the Bay Area against ICE tactics in Minneapolis including the most recent shooting by a Border Patrol agent, who shot and killed 37-year-old Alex Pretti on Saturday. His death followed the fatal shooting of Nicole Good by ICE agents.

U.S. President Donald Trump ordered ICE into Minneapolis, as well as Los Angeles, Washington, Chicago, Charlotte.

Local protests and wider political tensions have put communities on edge amid fears that the Bay Area would be targeted as well.

Local officials are responding to the impending arrival of ICE agents.

San Jose adopted measures to prohibit ICE from using city property and wearing masks.

On Tuesday night, Santa Clara Councilmembers under pressure from residents agreed to consider an ICE protection measure during a Feb. 3 special meeting, according to reports.

Alameda County officials also approved an "ICE-free Zones" and response plan.

On Tuesday, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to ban ICE agents from entering county-owned buildings at their meeting Tuesday, according to reports, a process that began in October.

Other Bay Area cities have approved, or are considering, ICE-free zones including Berkeley.

Today students are planning walkouts today across the Bay Area beginning at 9:45 a.m.
