Forget Safeway: Residents in this hard-hit S.F. neighborhood seek new grocery model (sfchronicle.com) — Fillmore residents in San Francisco are scrambling to replace two lost full-service groceries, after Safeway's Webster Street closure and Lucky's upcoming shutdown on Fulton leave the neighborhood without a major store. Neighbors, seniors, and Supervisor Bilal Mahmood are weighing options from a worker-owned co-op to attracting another chain, while many now travel farther or rely on farmers markets and corner stores for basics.
   

2. The Best Thing About Burning Man Is Staying In San Francisco (thebolditalic.com) — While many locals head to Burning Man, San Francisco residents can enjoy rare elbow room, easier restaurant reservations, and warm early-September weather right here in the city. Free outdoor performances by the San Francisco Mime Troupe and Shakespeare Festival, plus major museum exhibitions and a Giants home game, give you plenty to do without leaving town.
   

3. San Francisco Opera to Revive Thea Musgraves' 'Mary, Queen of Scots' (operawire.com) — San Francisco Opera is bringing back Thea Musgrave's 1977 work "Mary, Queen of Scots" in a new co-production with English National Opera this fall. Performances run Sept. 20 to Oct. 4, 2026 at the War Memorial Opera House, with one date livestreamed for at-home viewing, giving local opera fans multiple ways to experience this rarely staged piece.
   

4. Bryce Eldridge leads Giants to split-earning win over D-backs (statenews.net) — San Francisco Giants prospect Bryce Eldridge delivered four hits and four RBIs to secure a 7–2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks and salvage a doubleheader split at home. Rookie starter Yunior Marte impressed in his major league debut, while the result kept Arizona locked in a tight National League wild-card race that local fans will be watching closely.
