Police Seek Deadly Hit-And-Run Driver

The crash happened in the Bayview District earlier this month

SAN FRANCISCO, CA —San Francisco police are asking for the public's help to find a driver who fled after fatally striking a pedestrian in the city's Bayview District earlier this month.

According to the police, officers responded to the Aug. 4 hit-and-run around 11:55 p.m. near the intersection of Carroll Avenue and Arelious Walker Drive, police said.

Officers found the victim lying in the middle of the street, injured. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.Police have identified the victim as Bruce Romans, 59.

After conducting on autopsy, the city's medical examiner's office concluded his injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Police described Romans as being 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 153 pounds and last being seen wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans, in hopes that someone may have seen him the night of the collision and can provide more information.

Police are also asking anyone who may have seen a vehicle possibly driving erratically or with body damage to come forward.

Witnesses are being asked to call police's 24-hour tipline at (415) 575-4444 or to text a tip to TIP411 with "SFPD" at the beginning the message. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
