Some Beaches Close To Prevent Large Groups: Coronavirus Update
Three Bay Area counties reported new coronavirus deaths on Saturday.
BAY AREA, CA — Several beaches around the Monterey Bay Area are closed this weekend to reinforce social distancing and reduce large public gatherings, as cities anticipate large influxes of visitors during the heat wave.
The city of Pacific Grove announced the closure of the Lovers Point Beaches through Sunday.
The city of Monterey announced a partial beach closure for San Carlos and McAbee beaches over the weekend, allowing for essential activity only. Ocean access will be allowed, but sunbathing, lounging and other group activities are temporarily prohibited Saturday and Sunday.

As of Saturday at 4:30 p.m., officials have confirmed the following number of cases around the greater Bay Area region:
Alameda County: 14,909 cases, 219 deaths (14,558 cases, 219 deaths on Friday) (Totals include Berkeley Health Department data)

Contra Costa County: 11,013 cases, 156 deaths (10,756 cases, 152 deaths on Friday)
Marin County: 5,710 cases, 82 deaths (5,669 cases, 82 deaths on Friday) (Totals include San Quentin State Prison)
Monterey County: 6,057 cases, 46 deaths (5,890 cases, 41 deaths on Friday)
Napa County: 1,230 cases, 11 deaths (1,206 cases, 11 deaths on Friday)
San Francisco County: 8,157 cases, 69 deaths (8,053 cases, 69 deaths on Friday)
San Mateo County: 6,952 cases, 126 deaths (6,803 cases, 126 deaths on Friday)
Santa Clara County: 14,207 cases, 209 deaths (13,856 cases, 208 deaths on Friday)
Santa Cruz County: 1,418 cases, 6 deaths (1,371 cases, 6 deaths on Friday)
Solano County: Not available on county site Saturday afternoon (4,596 cases, 41 deaths on Friday)
Sonoma County: 4,157 cases, 51 deaths (4,063 cases, 51 deaths on Friday)
Statewide: 613,689 cases, 11,147 deaths (601,075 cases, 10,996 deaths on Friday)
