Steven Adair MacDonald & Partners Receive Record Cash Settlement in Alleged Wrongful Eviction Case

Attorney Steven Adair MacDonald, founder of Steven Adair MacDonald & Partners, P.C., recently announced his firm achieved a record cash settlement of almost $800,000 from a property owner and her property manager for a client who was allegedly wrongfully evicted. “In San Francisco, with its strict rent and eviction control, many owners are frustrated by below-market rents; however, they can only evict for ‘just cause,’” said MacDonald. “Some of the reasons available are the tenants’ misbehavior (‘fault’ based). Others include the landlord’s need, for example, to move in (‘no fault’).”

According to court documents, the landlord in this case allegedly had no solid evidence to evict MacDonald’s client, but refused to stop the eviction. After two years in litigation and nine days in court, a record-breaking settlement of almost $800,000 was reached by partner Jethro Busch and associate Olivia Dopler without a jury verdict.
