Meet The Super Bowl LX Players With Ties To The Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Some familiar Bay Area names are on the roster in Sunday’s Super Bowl LX between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium.

Three of the players on the two rosters played for Bay Area universities before making it to the biggest stage of the National Football League.

Rosters are subject to change, but right now, they include:

• Jaylinn Hawkins — a 28-year-old safety who played for Cal from 2015 to 2019. He was selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. He had a career-high 10 tackles against Stanford while at Cal in 2016.
• Craig Woodson — 24-year-old rookie and safety for the Patriots. He played at Cal from 2019 to 2024 and was drafted in the fourth round by the Patriots. During his 46-game career with Cal, he accumulated 245 tackles.
• Austin Hooper — a 31-year-old tight end for the New England Patriots. He grew up in San Ramon and was drafted out of Stanford in 2015. He made the Scout Freshman All-America first team in 2014 and was drafted in the third round of the NFL Draft the following year by the Atlanta Falcons.

These others have ties to Northern California:

• Marte Mapu — a 26-year-old linebacker for the New England Patriots out of Sacramento State. The SoCal native attended Sac State from 2017 to 2022 and graduated with a degree in sociology, according to the university.
• Lan Larison — a 24-year-old running back for the New England Patriots who attended UC Davis. Larison holds the university's record for career all-purpose yards (6,504) and single-season all-purpose yards (2,387), the latter of which he set in his senior year. The Idaho native was a Walter Payton Award Finalist in 2024.
