Worker Killed Setting Up Cirque du Soleil

The man was struck by a telescopic lift.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A technician for Cirque du Soleil died in an industrial accident during the pre-set of the show "Luzia" on Tuesday evening, circus officials said. He has now been identified:

Officers responded to the reported accident in the Cirque du Soleil tent at Mission Rock and Third streets at about 6:45 p.m.

The man had been struck by a telescopic lift, according to Cirque du Soleil. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died, police said at 10:37 p.m.

Tuesday's showing of "Luzia" was canceled.

"It is with immense sadness that we report a fatal accident that occurred last night," Cirque du Soleil officials said in a statement this morning.
