LIGHTEN UP!
A Playful Introduction to the Art of Clowning
San José, CA — The Center for Spiritual Living San José is launching LIGHTEN UP!, a four‑session, 16‑hour in‑person clowning course offering something the community hasn’t seen in years: a rare opportunity for everyday people—not performers—to explore clowning as a pathway to joy, creativity, and personal transformation. At a time when many are seeking relief from stress and a renewed sense of play, this unique program invites participants to rediscover lightness through movement, improvisation, and expressive exploration. All sessions will take place in person at the Center for Spiritual Living San José.
Classes are open to adults and teens ages 16 and up. The course requires no acting experience, no public performance, and no pressure to “get it right.” Participants are encouraged to explore curiosity, childlike spontaneity, and creative expression in a relaxed, supportive environment.
“Most of us spend our lives trying to appear capable and put together,” says facilitator Nadene Rogers, a professional clown, performer, lecturer, and teacher with decades of experience. “Clowning gives people permission to be human again—to experiment, to be surprised, and to discover parts of themselves they didn’t know were waiting.”
