1. Family donates anearly 400-acre ranch to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (kclu.org) — Cal Poly San Luis Obispo just received a nearly 400-acre working ranch south of the county airport, expanding hands-on opportunities for local agriculture students. The historic Brughelli Ranch includes cropland, livestock space, and a seven-acre reservoir, and will also generate rental income for the university. This gift further cements Cal Poly's role as a major agricultural landholder in California.
   

2. Watch: Table of Belonging Event Brings Cal Poly and SLO Communities Together (mustangnews.net) — San Luis Obispo residents and Cal Poly students recently packed Sichuan Kitchen for a Table of Belonging event that used food to connect campus and community. Cultural clubs served dishes from Filipino adobo to Japanese curry while attendees, including Cal Poly administrator and astronaut Victor Glover, shared stories about how meals build comfort, culture, and connection in SLO.
   

3. Update: Grade Fire burns 32.9 acres in San Luis Obispo County (fresnobee.com) — A new wildfire dubbed the Grade Fire is burning along northbound Highway 101 on Cuesta Grade near San Luis Obispo, having grown to 32.9 acres within about two hours of discovery. Cal Fire's San Luis Obispo Unit is responding, but officials haven't yet released details on containment or cause. Drivers and residents should stay alert for changing smoke and traffic conditions.
   

4. Military jet crashes off coast; fire scorches Cuesta Grade. Today's top stories (sanluisobispo.com) — Mandatory evacuations and major traffic delays hit San Luis Obispo residents after a Tesla fire on Highway 101 sparked a 33-acre brush fire on Cuesta Grade Wednesday. Locals also saw a Navy training jet crash off Morro Bay, the abrupt closure of Morro Bay Coffee Co., and early plans for a second Pad climbing gym near Cal Poly.
   

5. New prescribed fire reported in San Luis Obispo County on Sep. 17 (sacbee.com) — A prescribed burn called the Seven Oaks VMP has been underway on private land in San Luis Obispo County since September 17, helping reduce future wildfire risk through controlled burning. Officials haven't yet released details on acreage or crews, but residents may notice smoke from this ongoing fire-prevention work. The project is part of broader efforts to manage local wildfire danger.
