Celebrate 'Native Plant Week' with Free Guided Wildflower Walk on Mt. Tam

Guided Walk on April 16 Is Part of Week-Long California Native Plant Society Annual Celebration

The following is a news release from the Marin Municipal Water District:

Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) is hosting an activity to celebrate California Native Plant Week, April 11-19. Vegetation Ecologist Andrea Williams will lead a family-friendly guided wildflower walk on Pine Point on the shores of Bon Tempe Reservoir on Thursday, April 16, from 10 a.m. to noon. The walk is a short distance on mostly level terrain. After the walk, participants are invited to take part in a free seed planting that they can take home.

With the help of volunteers and students, the district has been restoring Pine Point by removing non-native, invasive French broom and planting native trees and bushes. Removing broom gives native plants and trees a better opportunity to thrive, improves habitat for animals, and reduces the fire fuel load.

The walk is free although an $8 parking fee is required per vehicle. The district is asking participants to meet at the Lake Lagunitas parking lot at 10 a.m. The Lagunitas Picnic Area is near Pine Point and is available for picnicking after the walk.
