MARIN COUNTY, CA – A man was arrested this week in connection with a deadly crash last month in Marin County.

Lucas John McFadden, 23, of Petaluma, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury in connection with the Jan. 29 fatal collision on Shoreline Highway in Marshall, an unincorporated community in Marin County.

McFadden was driving a Honda Prelude around 4:40 a.m. on the highway when it collided head-on with a Peterbilt truck-trailer towing a small excavator, according to the California Highway Patrol.

McFadden allowed the car to drift off the right side of the road on a left curve, then tried to turn back into his lane and crossed the center of the road into the path of the big-rig, CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said.

The crash killed Ricardo De Santiago, 18, of Marshall, a passenger in McFadden's car.

De Santiago's Facebook page indicated that he went to Tomales High School. As of Thursday, a GoFundMe page has raised more than $34,000 for funeral expenses and other costs.

The 54-year-old driver of the big-rig was not impaired or injured, Barclay said.

McFadden suffered major injuries and was taken to Kaiser Permanente San Rafael Medical Center, where he was arrested Monday. He was booked into Marin County Jail, with bail set at $500,000.
