Fairfax Police Pursuit: 1 Arrested, Another At Large After Alleged Crime Spree

Police are investigating whether the suspects were also involved in vehicle burglaries in San Anselmo and San Rafael.

FAIRFAX, CA – Authorities arrested one suspect and are searching for another after a series of alleged crimes and a police pursuit in Fairfax.

The incident began about 10 a.m. Tuesday when the Fairfax Police Department received a report of two suspicious people searching for unlocked cars in the 2500 block of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, according to police. The caller provided police with the license plate number of the pair's Nissan sedan, but officers were unable to find the suspects during a search of the area.

Minutes later, another caller reported an auto theft in the 2800 block of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard involving the same suspects and vehicle, according to police. The victim reclaimed his vehicle after confronting one of the suspects, who ran to a waiting Nissan nearby.

Police later spotted the Nissan driving east on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

"They got behind the Nissan (which) fled from them driving recklessly through downtown streets including leaving the roadway (and) driving the vehicle into and through a downtown park where persons were present," police said in a press release. "Officers remained on town streets and followed the vehicle onto Bolinas Road, where the driver lost control of the vehicle, which spun out."

Both suspects fled from the car, police said.

Fairfax police Sgt. Rico Tabaranza arrested the woman near the Nissan, according to police. Fairfax police Chief Christopher Morin chased the man through residential yards and into a creek, but ultimately lost sight of the suspect.

Fairfax police searched the area with help from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Central Marin Police Authority, Ross Police Department and California Highway Patrol. The man remained at large as of 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Precious Marshall, 40, of Richmond, was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of auto theft, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of stolen property and conspiracy.

The alleged crime spree remains under investigation.

According to police, the Nissan had been stolen in Richmond and contained potential stolen property. Police are investigating whether the suspects were also involved in vehicle burglaries in San Anselmo and San Rafael.
