Marin County Parks will host the first in a series of public meetings to develop a new master plan for McNears Beach Park on Monday, February 23, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the San Rafael Community Center, 618 B Street.

The area has been prized for fishing since the late 1800s and the fishing pier is still extremely popular. Other park facilities include a swimming pool, snack bar, sand volleyball courts, picnic areas, turf areas, and a tennis court set in a beautiful sheltered cove. The narrow, bayside beach offers a fun, safe place for general beach recreation and easy carry-in boat access for kayaks and canoes.

In 1970, the county established McNears Beach Park, and its buildings, walkways, infrastructure and utilities are beginning to show signs of age. Made possible by Measure A funding, the McNears Beach Park master plan will guide the long-term improvement of the park’s infrastructure and recreational facilities.

In addition to the community workshop, the public can participate in a survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/mcnears.
