Marin Needs More Foster Parents: Orientation for Potential Participants on April 21

If you have ever considered providing a temporary home to a child in need, now is an opportune time to come forward. Marin County Health and Human Services (HHS) is experiencing a shortage of foster homes. Are you willing to help Marin’s most vulnerable kids?

HHS’s Children and Family Services Division is offering an orientation on Tuesday, April 21, in San Rafael for anyone who would like more information about foster care. A social worker and an experienced foster parent will be on hand to discuss the application process, the training and the support offered by HHS.

Foster parents provide temporary homes to boys and girls of all ages, typically for six to 12 months. Foster parents may be any adult age, of any sexual orientation, and be single or part of a couple – married or not. They must be willing to work as part of a team and provide patience, stability and love. The county is especially in need of foster families who can care for sibling groups.

The April 21 orientation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Marin Health and Wellness Campus, 3250 Kerner Blvd., Room 107, in San Rafael. Orientations are generally held once a month; the next one is scheduled for May 20. For more information, call Cindy Wasserman at 415-473-5028.
