Nine Puppies Found Abandoned Near Marin Dumpster, Will Be Adoptable Soon
A man said he found them in a box near a San Rafael dumpster.
By Bay City News Service:
Nine puppies were brought into the Marin County Humane Society in Novato around closing time Tuesday evening by a man who said he found them in a box near a dumpster in San Rafael.
“We’ve tried to get in touch with him since then and haven’t been able to,” spokeswoman Lisa Bloch said.

The puppies are thought to be in good condition at eight or nine weeks old and roughly 10 to 12 pounds. They’re probably RottweilerLabrador mixes, according to the shelter’s veterinarians.
The first round of dumpster puppies could be available for adoption as soon as Friday, but there’s been a tremendous amount of interest, Bloch said.

“There’s a huge waiting list already, and we even received a call from as far away as Texas,” Bloch said. “For some reason these puppies are quite popular.”
There are, however, a number of other dogs also available at the shelter.
“It’s certainly dramatic, but there’s dramatic stories every day about animals neglected and needing help,” she said. “We hope people remember that.”
Bloch stressed the importance of spaying or neutering pets, and said her organization has resources available for pet owners who are no longer able to take care of an animal.
“We’re an open door shelter, meaning that if anybody is overwhelmed by pets we can take them,” Bloch said. “No animal should be left outside or left by a dumpster.”
The Marin County Humane Society has applications to adopt dogs, cats and other animals available on their website at www.marinhumanesociety.org.
