Paintings of Kip Westerfield at Marin Coffee Roasters Sponsored by SAAC
San Anselmo, CA. August 22, 2013- Born in Texas to artistic and musical parents, Kip Westerfield’s earliest childhood memories found him surrounded by art, music and theater. These early experiences inspired Kip to draw, getting his imagination flowing, and that passion for creating art has continued to thrive in Westerfield’s expressive, dreamlike paintings and drawings.
Seeking more exposure to the world and a practical application to art making, Kip attended Longwood College in Virginia, ultimately receiving a BFA in Illustration. At Longwood College Westerfield was encouraged by an excellent teacher who introduced him to the concept of combining his use of multi media and illustration, thus beginning a long period of artistic experimentation.
Westerfield has pursued many different mediums throughout his artistic career and his current work is still very much centered in experimentation using many medium: painting in oils, drawing with ink and graphite, and found assemblage. Kip comments. “Whether combining these materials together or using them separately, my images are both figurative and dreamlike, set in a surrealistic world where the narrative is not always obvious or explainable, but more of a snapshot of a dream open for individual interpretation.” More of Kip’s work can be viewed at http://kipzilla.com .
