San Anselmo, Fairfax Sex Offenders Get Halloween Reminder

Two teams of probation officers conducted unannounced searches in and near Fairfax, San Anselmo, San Rafael and Novato.

The following is a news release from the County of Marin:

As Halloween night approached, the Marin County Probation Department contacted 10 registered sex offenders on probation on Thursday, October 30, and directed them to have outdoor and porch lights turned off during the hours when trick-or-treaters may be canvassing neighborhoods.

Two teams of probation officers conducted unannounced searches in and near Fairfax, San Anselmo, San Rafael and Novato. The offenders were contacted and their residences were searched for items that qualified as violations of their probation. After checking home computers, phones and other electronic devices, nine of the 10 offenders were found to be in compliance; one technical violation was discovered, and it is under further investigation. Some offenders were directed to follow a curfew on Halloween night.

“Our officers were purposeful in reminding these folks about their obligations and expected behavior during these times,” Chief Probation Officer Michael Daly said. “The message was sent.”

Daly said his department will continue to focus resources on community safety and provide the highest level of supervision and treatment to prevent probationers from reoffending. “It is our department’s objective to play a key role in keeping the community safe, especially during the holiday season,” he said.
