Police found a large amount of mail in the backseat that did not belong to the occupants, Marilyn Gibson, 35, and Jessie Sterrett, 38. Police also found information suggesting the suspects were stealing mail for identity theft and a gun was found in Gibson’s purse, Skoog said.
Gibson and Sterrett were booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of mail tampering, petty theft, conspiracy to commit a crime and possession of stolen property. Gibson also was booked on suspicion of identity theft and concealing a firearm in a vehicle.
Sausalito residents who believe they are the victim of mail theft should contact police at (415) 289-4170, Skoog said.
