CHP Bay Area: "Child Passenger Safety Week" Update
Community: Child Passenger Safety Week - September 14-20. Is your child in the right seat?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has designated September 14 through September 20 as the “Child Passenger Safety Week” throughout the nation.
The California Highway Patrol places the highest priority on keeping our children safe. Vehicle collisions are the leading cause of death of children aged 1 through 13. In 2012 alone, over 121,000 children were injured as passengers in car crashes. In that same year, car seats were found to have saved an estimated 284 lives. An additional 58 children would have lived if every child was properly restrained in a car seat.
Did you know the CHP offers free car seat inspections at each of our Area Offices? Inspections are by appointment, and can be scheduled for any day of the week during business hours. Throughout this week, CHP Areas across the Bay Area will be hosting free child passenger seat checkup events. Some require appointments, while others are first-come, first-served. All events are free and open to anyone! Have your child’s seat checked today! Is your child’s life worth it?
