Cops: Man Poses as Utility Worker to Steal From South San Francisco Home

Police reminded residents that utility company employees generally do not enter home without prior notice.

A South San Francisco resident became the victim of burglary earlier this week after he let the thief inside his home, police said Thursday.

At about 9 a.m. Monday, a resident told police he arrived at his house on the 3700 block of Cork Place, when a man claiming to be with the water department followed him inside.

The suspect then instructed the victim to turn on all of the water faucets to conduct a test.

As the victim was doing so, police said the suspect took several items of jewelry from the residence and left.

Police described the suspect as a black male, between 30 to 40 years old, approximately 5-feet 9-inches tall and with all black clothing.

In a statement, police reminded residents that utility company employees generally do not enter home without prior notice.

Police also recommend verifying identification and contacting the utility company for confirmation.

Police are asking anyone with information on suspect to contact them.
