HEADS UP, SAN BRUNO: Rain Causing Major Crashes, Power Outages on Peninsula

Along with the rain, comes some major headaches for Bay Area residents.

The San Francisco Bay area awoke Monday morning to some rainy weather, and with that came quite a few hassles for area residents.

One of the biggest traffic backups was on I-580 in Livermore, where a big rig crash is producing delays estimated at six hours long. I-880 was also a trouble spot, with multiple crashes reported, some with injuries.

As for the Peninsula area, if you were planning on taking the Dumbarton Bridge in Menlo Park— you may wish to reconsider. A five car crash there left thousands of nails spilled on the roadway.

Over at SFO, officials were reporting weather-related delays, for both incoming and outgoing flights. Arriving and departing flights at SFO could be delayed by up to 46 minutes in the ground delay program being set up between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., duty manager Bob Rotiski said.

SFO’s parallel runways are only 750 feet apart, so days with reduced visibility require airport officials to implement ground delay programs, reducing the airport’s arrival rate, to follow current Federal Aviation Administration safety regulations. If you’re catching a plane or meeting someone at the airport, check with the airline before heading to the airport.

And wet weather caused several power outages Monday morning throughout the Bay Area, according to PG&E. Spokeswoman Jacqueline Ratto said most were in the North Bay, but hundreds were without power in the East Bay and Peninsula.

At one point Monday morning, 1,255 customers were affected by the outages in the North Bay. Outages also affected 744 customers in the Peninsula, 316 customers in the South Bay, 283 customers in the East Bay and 104 customers in San Francisco, Ratto said.

“PG&E is working to restore power safely and as quickly as possible,” Ratto said.
