Police: Would-Be Jewelry Thief Threatened to Blow Up San Bruno Store, But Ran Instead
Police say the man fled the scene when a store clerk informed him that law enforcement was en route.

Police are looking for a man who claimed to have an explosive device in an attempted robbery at a San Bruno jewelry store on Thursday afternoon, a police sergeant said.
Β Officers responded to a report of an attempted robbery at a jewelry store in the 600 block of San Mateo Avenue shortly after 3:35 p.m., Sgt. Ryan Johansen said.
Β The store clerk told arriving officers that the suspect entered the store and claimed to have an explosive device, Johansen said.
Β The suspect threatened to detonate the device unless he was given jewelry, he said.
Β The clerk told the suspect that police were on their way to the scene and he fled the store north on Masson Avenue, according to Johansen.
Β The suspect is described as a light-skinned male in his 20s and standing about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a normal build and thin, dark-colored mustache.
Β Police are releasing a photo of the suspect captured on the store's surveillance camera and asking for the public's help in identifying him. Β Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call San Bruno police at (650) 616-7100 or anonymously by email at sbpdtipline@sanbruno.ca.gov.
