MEDIA RELEASE / COMMUNITY ALERT

FROM THE CITY of SAN MATEO POLICE DEPARTMENT

Three Suspects Arrested Following Purse Snatch at Bridgepoint Shopping Center

On Sunday, January 4th at about 7:30 PM, a 58-year-old Foster City resident was walking to her parked vehicle in the parking lot of the Bridgepointe Shopping Center. She was approached by a male suspect who grabbed her purse and tried to pull it away from her. The two began to struggle for control of the purse until the victim was knocked to the ground. The suspect fled with the victim’s purse, entering a black Mercedes that was waiting nearby. Thanks to a group of alert witnesses in the area, the license plate of the vehicle was provided via 911 and then broadcast to police officers throughout San Mateo County.

Officers of the Redwood City Police Department later located the suspect vehicle in an alleyway near Rolison Road, still occupied by three subjects. The vehicle and occupants were detained while the victim of the robbery was transported to the scene. The victim positively identified one of the suspects as the man who took her purse and he was arrested by SMPD. A subsequent search of the vehicle recovered the contents and various personal items from the stolen purse.

Jose Gomez, Age 21, from Redwood City
