SMPD and CHP Team Up for Child Passenger Safety Week

Did you know that traffic collisions are the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13 in United States? Moreover, more than 100,000 children on average are injured every year as vehicle passengers during traffic collisions. As your police officers and as a community, we have an obligation to do whatever we can to protect our children and stop more tragic events like this from occurring. In 2012 alone, properly installed child car seats were found to have saved an estimated 284 lives while additional 50 children would have lived through a collision had they been properly restrained in a car seat.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has designated September 14th through September 20th, 2014 as “Child Passenger Safety Week”. With the wellbeing of our community’s children first and foremost in our mind, the San Mateo Police Department will partner with the California Highway Patrol to conduct child seat inspections on Saturday September 20th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at St. Timothy’s Church located at 1515 Dolan Avenue in San Mateo. This is a FREE event and no appointment is necessary.

Please join us and have all your child car seats inspected for safety and proper installation. Don’t have time on your Saturday?? Please make time…Your child’s life may depend on it.

MAKE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD SAFER
Please help us make your neighborhood safer and take a stand against crime. Please report all criminal behavior, join a Neighborhood Watch program, and help anyone who might fall victim to a crime. If a Neighborhood Watch doesn’t exist on your block, you can start one with help from SMPD. For additional information about the City of San Mateo Neighborhood Watch Program, call SMPD Community Services at (650)522-7626 or visit our web www.cityofsanmateo.org
