SAN LEANDRO, CA — Master gardener Miyo Burnett is switching seasons. Washington Navel Oranges grown on her backyard tree are getting past their prime, so she juiced them and froze the juice in an ice cube tray. They will be perfect for dropping into drinks or blending into smoothies.
As for the carrot tops, Miyo hopes they grow leaves, then flowers, then seeds for a crop next year. The carrots are from the grocery store so she is unsure if her experiment will work.
For now, it is a delight to be gardening again.
