San Leandro School Break-ins: 2 Young Teens Arrested

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Two 13-year-old boys were arrested Tuesday for a string of San Leandro school burglaries. One boy is from Oakland while the other is from San Leandro. Their names have not been released because of their ages.
The burglaries were at Washington, Roosevelt, McKinley, Jefferson and Wilson Elementary schools in May and June of this year. Stolen items include Apple iPads and MacBook laptops.
Detectives broke the case when they lifted a latent fingerprint from a crime scene.

Numerous items stolen in the burglaries were recovered when the boy's home in Oakland was searched.
“We are extremely pleased to have made arrests in these cases and return the items to the classroom where they are much needed,” said Lieutenant Isaac Benabou. “It’s unusual for us to arrest such young suspects responsible for a series of burglaries. These are brazen acts, and we hope that their arrests will prevent this behavior in the future.”

The investigation into these cases in continuing. Many stolen items are still missing.
