Suspect Sought For Swastika, Racial-Slur Vandalism On BART

Police believe the same person is responsible for multiple such crimes at stations in SF, San Leandro and Oakland, as well as on trains.

BAY AREA, CA – The public’s help is sought to identify a suspect, who allegedly was seen on video earlier this week writing on the floor at the Embarcadero Station in San Francisco and is suspected of drawing swastikas and scrawling racial slurs on BART property, according to the BART Police Department.

Due to the nature of the images and the verbiage used, investigators believe the same person is responsible for multiple similar vandalism incidents in the BART system this week, including at stations in San Leandro, Glenn Park in San Francisco and MacArthur Station in Oakland, as well as on trains, police said.

"This offensive vandalism will not be tolerated by BART," the agency said. "Whenever it is reported we will respond immediately to clean it up, and BART intends to pursue criminal charges. Most importantly, we want to provide a safe environment for our riders. That’s why we’re providing these images of the suspect to the public."
