Free Film "Girl Rising" in San Mateo

The film unites girls, women, boys and men who believe every girl has the right to go to school and the right to reach her full potential.

The San Mateo Public Library will host a special screening of the award winning documentary, “Girl Rising,” on November 18, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. Girl Rising is also a global campaign for girls’ education. Around the world, millions of girls face barriers to education that boys do not; and, yet, when you educate a girl, you can break cycles of poverty in just one generation.

The film “Girl Rising” unites girls, women, boys and men who believe every girl has the right to go to school and the right to reach her full potential. The film spotlights the stories of nine unforgettable girls from different parts of the world who were born into unforgiving circumstances. The film is directed by Academy Award nominee Richard Robbins and narrated by Meryl Streep, Kerry Washington, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Liam Neeson, Selena Gomez, Salma Hayek, and Alicia Keyes.

The screening is being hosted by San Mateo Public Library Project Read Adult Literacy program and is made possible through funding support of the San Mateo Public Library Foundation.
