• Deputy On Leave Faces Felony Child Abuse Charge In SMC (patch.com) — San Mateo County residents may be alarmed to learn that a county sheriff's deputy, currently on leave, has been charged in Alameda County with felony child abuse involving his 5-year-old son. While the alleged off-duty incident occurred in Livermore, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office says it has launched a thorough internal administrative investigation into the deputy's conduct.
   

• 'Never forget, be ready': Remembering 9/11, 25 years later (almanacnews.com) — San Mateo residents are invited to a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 11 at Fire Station 21 on South Ellsworth Avenue. • SMC Gets State Commitment To Fix $226M Funding Shortfall (patch.com) — San Mateo County has won a formal state commitment to work on fixing a vehicle license fee funding shortfall now estimated at $226 million, but no money has been restored yet. County leaders warn that without a solution, cuts could hit public safety, health care, libraries, childcare and housing programs across local communities in the coming years.
