When was the last time you saw a total lunar eclipse? When was the last time you saw a Harvest Moon rising at sunset...during a supermoon? When was the last time you saw all of these things happening…at the same time??? That’s exactly what will happen on the evening of Sunday, September 27, 2015, in the evening skies of San Mateo; a total eclipse of the Harvest Supermoon!
The CSM Astronomy Department will be celebrating this rare event by making itsobservatory telescopes available to the students and the public, from 6:30-9:30 pm, to enjoy the experience of observing this impressive event!
In addition to the telescopes in our rooftop observatory, a telescope will be set up on theCollege Center Terrace from 6:30~7:30 pm, and will be staffed by our astronomy faculty, for viewing and photographing the moon as it rises above the horizon. Also, courtesy of the CSM Astronomy Department, astronomy student volunteers will have binoculars available to view the supermoon.
