New Workout Studio to Open in Downtown San Rafael

MoveMe Studio, located at 1320 4th Street in San Rafael, will be opening Feb. 6, and will offer a full schedule of Nia and Yoga classes. MoveMe will be the first studio of its kind in Marin County, focusing on offering Nia, a sensory-based movement practice done barefoot to inspiring music, and Yoga classes.

Nia is a sensory-based practice combining nine movement forms of dance, healing arts, and martial arts.  Done barefoot to diverse and inspiring music, each one-hour class explores unique combinations of 52 moves that work the body’s base, core and upper extremities.  Nia is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels, as it can be modified to meet each individual’s needs and goals.
In addition to Nia, MoveMe offers Anusara inspired, Vinyasa, Hatha and Restorative Yoga classes designed for all levels.

Sarah Caveney, owner of MoveMe Studio has been a San Rafael and Marin County resident since 2001.  Sarah has practiced Nia since 2004, a time when she was raising two toddler boys and found Nia to be the ideal way to nurture her body and spirit.  Caveney decided she wanted to open her own studio about two years ago.

“I was at a family reunion in Port Townsend, Washington and taught a Nia class to my cousins, aunts and uncles at this beautiful studio there when I realized I wanted to create a place like that in Marin County – a place to bring together two practices I love, Nia and Yoga, and build a real community around it,” said Caveney.

MoveMe Studio, previously an art gallery, is a light and airy open space offering Nia and Yoga related retail merchandise to accompany the workout space with beautiful hard wood floors, high ceilings and plenty of natural light.  While several gyms and studios in Marin County offer Nia or Yoga, MoveMe will be the first dedicated to offering these two complimentary practices.
