Central Marin police officers and San Rafael police officers established a perimeter around the neighborhood while searching for the suspect. Because police believed the suspect was armed, authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents.
Police also deployed a drone and K-9 teams from the Novato and San Rafael police departments to assist in the search.
After several hours, the shelter-in-place order was lifted. Investigators determined the suspect likely left the area in a vehicle as officers were arriving.
The suspect was previously described as a white man in his 30s with a medium build who was wearing a black mask and black hooded sweatshirt.
Police said detectives have since recovered an image of a person of interest and are seeking additional footage from residential doorbell cameras, security systems and local businesses.
Anyone with video of the person of interest, or anyone matching the suspect's description, is asked to call the Central Marin Police Authority's non-emergency line at 415-927-5150 and share the footage with detectives for analysis.
