Suspected Rowboat Thief Arrested In San Rafael
A witness spotted a man taking a 15-foot aluminum boat from a dock on Canal Street and rowing the boat into the bay, police said.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — A man suspected of stealing a rowboat was arrested early Thursday morning in San Rafael.
The boat theft was reported at 12:27 a.m. A witness spotted a man taking a 15-foot aluminum boat from a dock on Canal Street and rowing the boat into the bay, according to San Rafael police.
Within 25 minutes of the call, officers aboard a police boat heard the aluminum hull of a boat hit a dock behind 240 Canal St. Police found four suspects attempting to hide in the boat.

Hector Gramajo-Diaz, 28, of San Rafael, was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of stealing the boat and possessing stolen property. The three other suspects were interviewed and released.
"Gramajo-Diaz said that he picked up three of his friends shortly after stealing the boat," police Sgt. Justin Graham said.

Police towed the boat back to its owner. There was no damage to the boat, Graham said.
