Candidate Filing To Open For November Election In Marin County

Nominations will be accepted July 13 through Aug. 7.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — With summer in full swing, the November 2020 General Election is now only a few months away.

The nomination period opens July 13 for local offices in Marin County. Nominations will be accepted until 5 p.m. Aug. 7, with an extension to Aug. 12, if an incumbent does not file.

  • Marin County Board of Education and 19 school districts
  • Special districts including community services districts, fire protection districts, the Marin Healthcare District, public utility districts, recreation districts, the Marin Resource Conservation District, sanitary districts, and water districts
  • Cities and towns include Belvedere, Fairfax, San Anselmo, San Rafael, Sausalito and Tiburon (Note: Municipal candidates must file nomination documents with their respective city clerk.)

Prospective candidates can pick up and file nomination papers at the Marin County Elections Department at the Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, Suite 121, in San Rafael. The department's hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and until 5 p.m. on Aug. 7. Candidates can also submit the application online.

An appointment is required due to the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to an appointment, people visiting the office must wear a face covering. The number of people allowed in the lobby at one time will also be limited.

Prospective candidates visiting the office without an appointment will have to wait until all other appointments are completed, according to the county. The appointment calendar is online at www.marinvotes.org.

Staff can arrange for virtual witnessing of signatures on the candidate forms. Specific original documents must still be received in the office by the applicable deadline.
