Dry Lightning, Gusty Winds Possible: North Bay Fire Risk Elevated

The fire risk will be the greatest in the higher elevations of the North Bay and East Bay.

NORTH BAY, CA – The risk for wildfires will increase Thursday night into Friday morning in the San Francisco Bay Area because of a slight chance of thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

The risk will be higher because the thunderstorms may bring dry lightning and gusty winds. Weather officials said thunderstorms are most likely in the North Bay and East Bay and the fire risk will be the greatest in the higher elevations of those regions.

Little to no rain is expected.

"Because the moisture is in the mid and upper levels, rain will evaporate before reaching the ground and the result is possible dry lightning," weather officials said.

Any fires that do start will spread, according to weather officials.
