Marin Under Shelter In Place Order As Coronavirus Cases Go Up

There are now 11 cases of coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, in Marin County.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Two additional cases of the new coronavirus were reported Monday in Marin County, hours after Marin was among seven counties in the Bay Area that ordered residents to shelter in place in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The new cases bring the county's total to 11.

The shelter in place order went into effect at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and will last until at least April 7. The order followed new data of increasing local transmission of COVID-19, including 258 confirmed cases and four deaths shared by the seven counties as of Sunday.

The three-week order limits activity, travel and business functions to only the most essential needs. The order closes nonessential businesses but keeps grocery stores, police and fire departments, pharmacies and some other businesses open.

The Marin County/Gnoss Field Airport will remain open, officials confirmed Monday.
