Over 8,000 Without Power In San Rafael

More than 8,000 PG&E customers were without power Thursday afternoon in San Rafael.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — More than 8,000 PG&E customers were without power Thursday afternoon in San Rafael.

PG&E reported on its outage map that multiple outages left 8,314 San Rafael customers with no power. Crews were investigating the cause.

At the same time, a blown transformer left 155 customers without power in San Anselmo, according to the Central Marin Police Authority.

Central Marin Police received multiple reports of a blown transformer in the area of Forbes Avenue. Power was out in several areas, including traffic lights along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. It was unknown whether the outages were connected.

The outages impacting San Rafael were unrelated to PG&E's Public Safety Planned Shutoffs. About 9,855 customers in Marin were warned they could lose power during the shutoffs, but the impacted areas included Bolinas, Fairfax, Mill Valley, Muir Beach, Olema, Sausalito and Stinson Beach.

As of Thursday morning, more than 4,000 customers had no power in Marin due to the planned shutoffs, according to PG&E outage map.
