Rape Suspect Plea Delayed

Hearing will be next week.

Attorneys for a Marin City man accused of raping a San Rafael teenager asked a Marin Superior Court judge for more time in the case against Leroy  Anthony Clark, 33, during a hearing on Wednesday.

Judge Terrence Boren agreed to move Clark's entry-of-plea hearing to 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 17, according to Murat Ozgur, deputy Marin district attorney.

Clark was arrested by San Rafael Police on Friday after an 18-year-old victim reported the sexual assault at about 11 p.m. Thursday. She said she had gone to an auto detail shop on Irwin Street and was there alone when she was attacked, said Margo Rohrbacher, spokeswoman for San Rafael Police.

The victim gave officers a description of the suspect, who had fled the area, and then identified him during an investigation procedure.

Detectives determined that the suspect was a sex offender who had a previous sexual assault conviction, Rohrbacher said.

The suspect was located by Marin County Sheriff deputies near Civic Center Drive Friday.

Clark was booked in Marin County Jail on suspicion of rape, sexual battery, and a sex registration violation.  He is being held $100,000 bail.  Clark was also booked on a no-bail warrant for failure to register as a sex offender.
