San Rafael Man Found Dead In Submerged Vehicle In China Camp
Authorities identified a man who was killed over the weekend when his vehicle went over a cliff in China Camp State Park in San Rafael.
SAN RAFAEL, CA — Authorities on Monday identified a man who was killed over the weekend when his vehicle went over a cliff in China Camp State Park in San Rafael.
Around 12:10 p.m. Saturday, a 911 caller reported a vehicle 30-feet off the roadway, upside down and submerged in a waterway within the state park, near Buckeye Point in San Rafael, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.
Gerard William Jasper Haynes, 67, of San Rafael, was extricated from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, Chief Deputy Coroner Roger Fielding said. He was the only person in the vehicle.

"The Marin County Sheriff's Office and personnel of the Coroner Division offers our sincerest condolences and best wishes to the family and friends of Mr. Haynes," Fielding said.
The California Highway Patrol's Marin Office and Marin County Sheriff's Office-Coroner Division were investigating the crash. A forensic post-mortem examination and toxicology testing have been scheduled for later this week.
