SMART Train Continues Free Service For Third Day

BREAKING: Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit is once again providing free service between downtown Santa Rosa and downtown San Rafael.

NORTH BAY, CA – In an effort to support people affected by the North Bay wildfires, Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit is providing free service between downtown Santa Rosa and downtown San Rafael for the third day.

SMART will run 28 train trips Wednesday between the two cities and the stations in between. Southbound service begins at 5:01 a.m. out of Santa Rosa and northbound service begins at 6:29 a.m. out of San Rafael. Service will continue mid-day, through the peak commute, and into the evening with the last southbound train departing downtown Santa Rosa at 7:01 p.m. and the last northbound train departing downtown San Rafael at 8:35 p.m.

Due to power outages and closed railroad crossings in the northern portion of Santa Rosa, the Sonoma County Airport and Santa Rosa North stations will be closed again Wednesday.

"Safety is SMART’s top priority and we will continue to monitor fire conditions and will use all necessary safety precautions," SMART officials said on the agency's website.
