Stabbing Suspect Wanted In San Rafael Found At Pittsburg Motel

SAN RAFAEL, CA – A woman wanted by police for allegedly stabbing a man at a San Rafael senior housing complex Tuesday was arrested Thursday after police found her at a Pittsburg motel.

Police believe Unique Lashonda Gaimes, 26, stabbed a 66-year-old man around 6 a.m. Tuesday at his apartment in the West End neighborhood of San Rafael.

The suspect and victim had reportedly known each other for more than five years. Gaimes allegedly spent the night at the victim's home and, without provocation, stabbed the man in his bedroom, the following morning, according to police. Police found the man with stab wounds to his head, face, neck and chest.

The victim was taken to a hospital. Information about the extent of his injuries was not immediately available.

Investigators learned Gaimes immediately boarded a Golden Gate Transit bus after the stabbing and got off at the El Cerrito Del Norte BART station in El Cerrito, police said.

After receiving a call Thursday, police in Pittsburg were dispatched to conduct a welfare check on someone inside a room at the Motel 6 at 2102 Loveridge Road in Pittsburg, according to police. Officers identified the occupant as Gaimes, who was detained and transported to San Rafael, where she was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide and mayhem, according to police. Gaimes was booked into the Marin County Jail.
