Teens Charged For Climbing Golden Gate Bridge
Peter Cameron Kurer and Thomas James Rector have been sent a letter to appear for arraignment in San Rafael on Sept. 12, prosecutors said.

BAY AREA, CA – Two Wisconsin teens who filmed themselves free climbing to the top of the Golden Gate Bridge earlier this year have been charged with misdemeanor trespassing and climbing on a toll bridge, Marin County prosecutors said Thursday.
The charges were filed Tuesday against Peter Cameron Kurer, who posted the video on Facebook and YouTube under the name Peter Teatime, and Thomas James Rector, who made the climb of the bridge's North Tower on April 11, according to the district attorney's office.
Kurer and Rector have been sent a letter to appear for arraignment in San Rafael on Sept. 12, prosecutors said.

In the video, the teens do backflips and somersaults and hang from their fingertips without harnesses or other fall protection. The video begins at dusk and ends in darkness.
Climbing on the bridge is punishable by up to a year in jail.

After the video was posted online, the California Highway Patrol and U.S. Department of Homeland Security began investigating.
Golden Gate Bridge spokeswoman Priya Clemens said after the video was released that changes were underway in the "security infrastructure" of the bridge.
