I’ve always been a fan of Twitter, especially for a networking tool. How Might You Want To Test Utility? Don’t have a Twitter account or know how to use Twitter effectively? Directions here in a recent blog post I wrote.
Now quick, download Tweetdeck on your phone. Create a search column for “dishcrawl” so you can follow the event and network online! When you talk about dishcrawl, use the hashtag (to make your tweet more searchable) #dishcrawl.
During the Dishcrawl, have your phone ready. Connect with the internet by using an app like Foursquare or Gowalla, connect them with Twitter so that other folks that are searching the hashtag #dishcrawl that night can see you checkin! Maximize the serendipity online by talking about your offline experience. But What Do I Tweet?

These are a couple tweets that are typical to my tweetstream during a Dishcrawl.

“Great meeting you @dundadasociety at the Pleasanton #dishcrawl! I can’t wait to come to another event and meet your folks!”
“Tiramisu in martini cups at Forno Vecchio are the best! Great sharing them with you @jacdo! #Pleasanton #dishcrawl”
“I just checked in a @cabanadaves! Jamaican Chicken wraps are phenomenal here #dishcrawl”
“@unixjanitor nice to meet you! We’re on the same #dishcrawl! Where are you sitting?”

As others are tweeting out and you’re tweeting back, you’re able to keep and build upon those relationships after the event. It’s another way to connect- forget about business cards, use Twitter to continue to build upon those. You and the people you meet- their rolodex exists on Twitter.
What About After the Event? Keep up your Twitter stream with relevant information (refer back to my post – listed above) for how to do that. Engage. Become a thought leader. Become a connector. I’m excited to see the twitterstream in action this Dishcrawl!
