Murder Case: 2 Santa Cruz County Residents Arrested Friday

Two men are facing charges related to murder and gang activity after a man was fatally shot July 28.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Two Santa Cruz County men were arrested Friday in connection with the slaying of a Santa Cruz County man found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in his car.

Sergio Alvarez-Lopez, 24, of Santa Cruz and Jonathan Dominguez-Martinez, 22, of Santa Cruz County are facing charges related to first-degree murder and participating in gang activity, jail records show. Alvarez-Lopez is also facing a charge of assaulting a person with a firearm, jail records show.

Both men were booked into Santa Cruz County jail.

The arrests date back to a July 28 shooting in the city of Santa Cruz. Police arrived to find a man suffering from several gunshot woulds near Mission and Swift streets. He was treated at Dominican Hospital, where he later died.
