• Thousands of volunteers hit LA beaches in massive coastal trash cleanup (nypost.com) — Santa Monica beaches were a major focus of this weekend's massive Coastal Cleanup Day, as volunteers fanned out across the sand with buckets and bags to haul away trash. The annual Heal the Bay effort, part of California's statewide cleanup, drew thousands across Los Angeles County and is expected to remove tens of thousands of pounds of litter from local shorelines and waterways.
